I'm stuck at 'Select Extract Shape Tool'. I'm no getting that option. I'm doing exactly as described by 'click and hold on it then a pop up menu will appear' and it's still not working for me. Any ideas?

MORE: 1. In Safari, click on File -> Mail Contents of the Page.
It'll open up in a new Mail message.
In that Mail message, get the cursor at the extreme top-left, hit the Return key a few times, arrow back up to the top, & start typing your message.
Open another new Mail message from Safari using a different webpage. In that 2nd webpage-email, left-click & drag-highlight whatever you want. With the arrow or cursor inside the selection, hit Command-C.
In Mail's menubar, click Window & select your 1st message.
Get your cursor anywhere you want in that 1st webpage, leftclick once to keep it there, then hit Command-V. Voila. Stuff from webpage #2 is now in #1.
In addition, any changes to text inside most any part of that emailed webpage can be altered; i.e., text made bold, or red, or whatever. And almost any graphic, table, etc can be removed by right-clicking 'til it's highlighted, & then choosing "Cut." That takes a little practice & trial & error though, usually, finding what exactly gets highlighted when you click on such&such a place inside an emailed webpage.

Also, in ANY program on Mac, copy any image to the clipboard using that program's menu functions or the mouse, whatever works, and then in any Mail New Message, rightclick & paste it in there.

Another one: In a New Message, select/highlight a word.
In any webbrowser, copy a webpage's URL address to the clipboard.
Back in New Message, make sure you're word's still highlighted & then click on Edit in Mail's Menubar & then on Add Hyperlink....
    Hit Command-V.
Your highlighted word is now a hyperlink.
Ya don't have to highlight a word to make a hyperlink though.
If you DON'T highlight a word, then the actual usually very long webaddress will show up as its own hyperlink.

I got more, but gotta go........ Rule of thumb: EXPERIMENT !

I just came back to the problem to try again to change Trash (I opted for "Rubbish"), and realized my problem. I didn't allow the English.lproj folder to be written as well. So if anyone has encountered a problem changing the name of Trash, make sure you allow both the InfoPlist.strings file to be written as well as the English.lproj folder it is in.

When trying to change the name of the Trash, I am told I lack "appropriate access privileges." I am the administrator, and I changed my Sharing & Permissions settings for that file to to include administrators and even my own account specifically, and set privileges to Read & Write. But still no dice, I lack access. What gives?

Great post! Do you know of a plugin that shows a preview of the first 10-20 words of an email before actually opening it (like the iphone, gmail or outlook?). When I first saw widemail I was hoping this was going to be in there, but it unfortunately does not.

    1) I created a cool slide presentation 2) I export it to QuickTime then Can I upload to YouTube via QuickTime Pro? I will only spend the $30 if I know for sure the YouTube presentation will look as good as the QuickTime movie.

Now for the opposite of Porn Mode. Is there a way to block website by content filtering? I used to do that with Firefox a long time ago. Say I want to block website or webpages which contain the word "sex" or "lesbian", or whatever. Can it be done ?

Mark, google "Docker for Mac" It can do a lot (if not all) of these same things, and you don't need to enter terminal. Its much easier, and you can always restore defaults with the click of a button...

I imported a .gif file into stickies a couple of years ago, and I need to use it now. Only problem is; if I drag it to my hard drive, it creates a clipping file. So how do I get the raw file on my hard drive instead of embedded in a stickie note?

One thing I find essential to enable is displaying the Keychain Access icon in the Menu Bar. This lets you lock your screen without having to sleep - I use it all the time when I leave my Macbook on my desk at work. It'll also let you globally lock and unlock the keychain very easily. To enable it, follow the directions above to get into the Keychain Access utility. Go into Keychain Access, Preferences, and select "Show Status in Menu Bar"

To bring the widgets to the desktop, first run the terminal commands. Then open dashboard, click and hold the widget as if you were moving it, then hit the dashboard shortcut button on your keyboard (F4 on my Mac, maybe some other F key on yours). Do the same from the desktop to get rid of it.

I found a screen capture app that I think works better than Grab: InstantShot http://projects.digitalwaters.net/index.php?q=instantshot I can't figure out how to change Grab's file format from the unnecessary tiff to a more reasonable png.

For those having problems with the "LotsaWater" screen saver, you must go to system preferences>security and uncheck "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver."
