New Design. The White UsingMac

After several months of black-theme UsingMac, we've decided to transform into white-theme design. Perhaps, some of you might feel surprised by this sudden change, but we hope that you feel comfortable with our new design.

Why Do We Choose White?

Having browsed through most of the websites that contain guide or information, rarely can we see them using white-on-black layout. That's when we think of changing into white-on-black layout.

What Are The Changes We Made?

If you have visited our site before, you would notice that the look-and-feel of several places have been tweaked, for example: mini highlights on the top now is incorporated with simple round button, you can browse through those highlights by clicking on the button.

Besides that change, we have also made changes to

  • Logo → Now with simple text instead of image, for faster loading
  • Search Bar → Located at right most of our navigation bar
  • Sidebar → More appealing hover effect is added for better navigation
  • Comment Box → It has been enlarged and now accept line break

And the biggest change would be the change from Black to White.

What Do You Think?

We believe that we are still far from perfect. It's really appreciated if you can give us any constructive feedback or comment on this new design. Not only for giving feedback, you can also try out our new comment box.

Hope you enjoy this new experience with UsingMac.

Evolution of Apple Products 1

Most of Apple products are designed to be minimalist and appealing to eyes; that's what we can see now: glossy screen with glimmering aluminum case. However, how about Apple products 30 years ago?

In this article, you can see how much Apple products have evolved for these past 30 years. You can also see that Apple products at the old time are much more expensive than these days. And maybe you will notice that some of the non-Apple laptops still resemble Apple products 10 years ago (Woah!).

Mac Dictionary, Secret Words

No much things to show for now, just a bit of fun that you can get with your Mac Dictionary.

First of all, open up your Mac Dictionary, choose to display Thesaurus and type in one of these secret words:

Apple

"Varieties of apples: Ambrosia, Baldwin, Braebum, Cameo, etc."

I don't know there are so many varieties of apple. Surprisingly, there is also a variety of apple called McIntosh, which I think, from where the name Macintosh comes into use.

Democracy

"A democracy in Irag is quite unlikely for now or any time soon."

Metal

"Metals and Alloys: Aluminum, Antimony, Brass, Bronze, etc."

But now Google has use Chrome for its web-browser name. Maybe next time we can expect other company to have their browsed code-named Pewter?

Maybe you got other interesting Hidden Dictionary Words to show us? The comment box is always there for you :)

Apple Keynote Bloopers

Found on YouTube this morning: Apple Keynote Bloopers.

I think the title and the movie itself are pretty explanatory.

Trust me it works!

Anyway, the last keystrokes on the movie being used to force quit the frozen Quake III program is Command-Option-Escape.

Elegant Apple Mockups

Submitted to Flickr by Miguel Suárez, this Black MacBook Pro hits Digg front page in a sudden.

"Once you go black…"
"Holy crap my wallet is burning."

Applying the black skin of MacBook Black, combining with the smoothness of MacBook Air edge and adding glass keypad along with the beautifully engraved MacBook Pro brand there makes this design really looks elegant.

Do you think Apple will take this creative, elegant mockup and implement for the future MacBook design?

Leopard Look-alike Ubuntu

Folks at MakeTechEasier posted a nifty trick to turn their Ubuntu into a Leopard look-alike operating system.

It's kind of surprising for me. So now, both Windows users and Ubuntu users have the high demand to turn theirs into Leopard. Why don't they just buy a new Mac?
