Who doesn’t want to look good? The widespread availability of smartphone cameras has given rise to a social phenomenon: Selfies. A new term “Selca” is also coined, adding to today’s dictionary of abbreviation. Selca means Self Cam picture. For the unaware, a selfie is a self-portrait photo, usually taken with a smartphone camera. While most selfies seem to be taken casually, the truth is that varying degrees of preparation (how much depends on the vainness of the person) is put into each photo. Common concerns include how to pose, where to pose, angle of the camera, background, etc.
In case you were wondering, we’re not fans of selfies, but we have many friends who are. Seeing them fuss over such minor details is really an eye-opener. Back to topic, people want their selfies to look good and casually fashionable. Enter Beautune, a portrait-editing app which lets you reshape, retouch, and remake your picture. This photo editing Mac app has almost no learning curve, so you can start beautifying yourself immediately. Specific touch-up options are available for face, eyes, and mouth. Mix-and-match is the way to go.
For the face, combine foundation with blemish fix, wrinkle remover, and smooth to roll back the years and get rid of those irritating zits and panda eyes. There’s also a weight loss option which got us highly intrigued, but it doesn’t really do much except compress the picture. Still, the other options available on Beautune will ensure that you look fresher and younger.
The eyes, although small, add life and zest to your portrait. There are lots of selections to bring out the colour, shape, and size of your eyes. Enlarge eyes and eye pop are the most basic options. For the more fashionably knowledgeable users, eye tint, mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, and eye shadow gives you even more variety to enhance your eyes. Also available is the red-eye remover, which as the name suggests, will automatically remove red-eye from your images. Red eye is a common occurrence which sometimes happens when using flash photography in low-light. With Beautune in your Mac, you can be amazed how aesthetically enhanced your mug will be.
Mouth touch-up selections consist of lip tint and teeth whiten, which allows you to add more colour to your lips and get the picture-perfect smile everyone wants to have. More advanced editing options are also available; our favourite ones are defocus, effects, and frames. Defocus blurs out the unimportant background distractions and add more emphasis to your portrait. Effects and frames are Instagram-inspired options which may not be novelties, but are essential in all photo-editing apps today. The options are limited compared to other photo apps, but the available ones on Beautune still manages to add nice finishing touches to your final image.
The growing popularity of selfies and self-portrait shots has created the need for a user-friendly portrait-editing app, and Beautune fulfils the gap perfectly. However, one complaint we have is the Beautune watermark it leaves at the bottom right of the image after exporting. Honestly, most people will think twice about uploading such a picture on their social media platforms, as everyone that sees it will know that it had gone through edits. Currently, Beautune has only released a beta version, so hopefully this issue will be addressed when the full version is out. Otherwise, a really good portrait-editing app, and a must-have for all selfie addicts!
