DVD rippers are pretty common nowadays, especially with the increasing popularity of hand-held smart devices like phones and tablets. People want to be able to watch their favourite programmes on-the-go, and not be hampered by location and static devices. This has led to a flurry of DVD rippers available online.
However, many of them are buggy and defective. We’ve encountered a few programmes in which the output video and audio were not in sync, others that did not deliver high quality output even though we checked the high quality button, and some even stopped working when we selected the ‘Rip’ option.
The good news came when we were introduced to MacX DVD Ripper Pro. No prizes for guessing our favorite Superhero movie, for we are true to our core nature of tech geeks. We decided to do a little experiment on our Iron Man DVD with this awesome Mac application.

MacX DVD Ripper Pro (quite a mouthful there) is one of the most reliable and versatile DVD rippers we’ve used so far. It serves the basic function of ripping your DVDs into formats compatible with smart devices, and also provides more advanced options to customise your video.
1. Supports multiple formats
When the application is launched, clear and concise instructions are given on how to get started. It’s so simple even computer novices will not have any issues navigating the steps. What we really like about this programme is the variety of outputs it has to offer. Besides Apple devices, it also provides formats for Android, Microsoft, and Sony devices, plus YouTube, Facebook, and Vimeo compatible files. Formats compatible with iTunes and Quick Time include MP4, QT, FLV, H.264, MOV, AVI, MP3, MPEG, and M4V. Look at all the file formats available for Apple devices below. You can tell that the developers really put in the effort to ensure that all the popular formats, and even some not so popular ones, are included.
2. High speed conversion
Speed is of great importance to users today, considering the steady deterioration of our attention spans. The good news is that users do not have to worry about speed with this programme. Among all the DVD rippers we’ve used, this one is the fastest. We tried converting a 2GB file, and it took only about 20mins. We compared it with another DVD ripper, and that one took 25mins to convert. Time is of the essence, and 5mins is a lot by today’s standards.
3. Customize your video
You can also customise your video by toggling the volume, adding subtitles, cropping the edges, and fixing the start and end time. All these features are easy to use, so don’t worry if you’re new to this. We sometimes like to skip the credits, especially if there’s a hidden scene after that. So this option is really useful for users to play around and customise the video to their liking.
Another great feature of this programme is the constant updates to check for new devices on the market. After the update, the option to rip your DVD to formats supported by the new device will be available. So when Apple releases a new iPad or iPhone, be sure to update your version.
MacX DVD Ripper Pro, despite its longish name, rips DVDs at the speed of light (compared to other similar programmes). It does the job as advertised, is really easy to use, and has almost no learning curve at all. For a one-time cost of $39.95, you get a programme which is dependable and great at what it does. Truly a must-have for all DVD collectors and enthusiasts.
