These days, it feels like there’s some new and exciting technology coming out just about every week. This year alone, there have been a number of exciting gadgets and technologies announced and released, from the news of the impending next generation Xbox, through the shockingly popular Nest home thermostat hitting the shelves. Meanwhile, established technologies are only becoming bigger, and being implemented more broadly. For example, cloud computing – offered by everyone from massive tech companies to specialized providers such as Citrix ShareFile – is now being used in a huge variety of business settings. But among all these exciting developments, nothing quite tops a major announcement from Apple.
This year hasn’t yet seen such an announcement yet, but with the summer just around the corner rumors and expectations for the next iPhone are beginning to stir. Generally speaking, the “s-series” of iPhones don’t generate quite as much buzz as entire new generations. For example, the iPhone 5 made bigger news than the iPhone 4S, and was perceived as a more significant upgrade. Nevertheless, techies and Apple fans alike go wild for any news on any new iPhone, so here are some of the current rumors regarding the iPhone 5S we’re expected to see this summer.
Rumors vary as to when Apple will likely release the iPhone 5S, and the truth is we just don’t know yet. Some are predicting the phone will hit the shelves as soon as June, while others expect a release later in the year, toward the fall season. Some of the most recent speculation, however, centers on the fact that Apple recently offered discounted prices for the iPhone 5, which some saw as a sign that the 5S is just around the corner.
New Operating System
There’s no official word, but it seems quite likely that the iPhone 5S will run on a new operating system, which would be iOS7. We do know, of course, that iOS7 is on the way, so it’s simply logical to assume that any new phone would utilize it.
One of the most interesting rumors for the 5S is that it will feature the Retina+Sharp IGZO display system, which essentially means 1080p HD. This is a competitive move by Apple, and likely the one that will have customers most interested in the iPhone 5S, if the rumors are true.
Also worth noting is that the iPhone 5S will almost certainly include a 13 MP camera. This won’t exactly launch Apple ahead of competitors in camera quality, but it will keep pace with the Samsung Galaxy series.
