Reading from the title, you will know that I have successfully installed Snow Leopard on my little Black Macbook. As a kick-start, let me share with you this simple trick to enable stack highlighting.
You only need to execute these two lines of Terminal commands to make it happens :
defaults write com.apple.dock mouse-over-hilite-stack -boolean YES
killall Dock
After execution of the second command line, your Dock will be restarted and when you mouse over one of your stack items, it will be highlighted.
Screenshot on the right displays how the stack highlighting looks like.

This tip was sent to me on twitter via @ricardoeixas
Thanks! I've been wanting that back since I updated!

thanx!!! i was wondering why the highlight had gone from Stacks...
I used to have that on Leopard with the help of third party application. Thanks for another useful tip!! ^_^
Cette astuce fonctionnait aussi sous 10.5. Super ça fonctionne encore sous 10.6
Totally unnecessary! In Snow, you have two options without editing the plists. If you simply quickly click the folder in the Dock (using grid setting) it will not highlight icons as normal. Now, click and hold the mouse on the folder icon in the Dock and then move over - the highlights are now there! You get the best of both worlds, depending on how you want to use the Grid. Sent this to MacOSXhints, and they ignored it. Too bad. Nice new feature.

I believe there's a typo on the command line. Instead of mouse-over-hilite-stack it should be mouse-over-hilte-stack. You got that wrong here, but you got it right in the "7 Tricks for Stack You Must Know" post. That's how I found out. Great site, btw.
Great. Much better with visual feedback! Thanks.
Great tip - thanks.

" Hey Vhugo, You're right, there is a type, but actually the correct cmd line is here, and the typo is in the 7 tricks link. but good catch! Hopefully the OP will see it.
@vhugo:
You can refer back to "7 Tricks for Stack You Must Know" for Leopard. In this article, the command line is using hilite which works for Snow Leopard. Using hilte for Snow Leopard will have no effect.
Unfortunately my stacks are not even enabled. I have the doc on my desktop that talks about stacks and I am running snow leopard. I tried your commands (even the correction of hilite) to no avail. Any other ideas? Thanks!
Honestly, I've always been more of a fan of just putting the monitor to sleep than screen savers. Sure they look pretty awesome, but if you're sitting at your computer, are you really doing so with the screen saver on?Good luck for the dates. It has been some times since we last heard about the next tour. I hope they can run it accordingly now.e742sijnfhMAOOTT

Some great info here and a few options I need to try out, but I have to say I like modern styling on websites (well most of the time ;) ), so there are a couple of these that I won't be using. Biltricide
