Daily Trick 2. Total Darkness
Usually, in order to adjust the brightness of our Mac to 0%, we will press and hold the function button all the way until the light from our Mac is gone. And I am not satisfied with this usual stuff as it's not giving me immediate darkness to my Mac.
I've mentioned this trick somewhere in previous articles, we can use single keystrokes to get total darkness of our Mac.
0% Brightness
Shortcut: Ctrl-Shift-Eject.
This will sleep only the display without turning your Mac into sleep mode.
And this saves more battery power compared to turning on screen saver.

Better idea to define an active corner (system preferences - exposé and spaces) and choose here "hibernate mode of the display".... quicker and easier to deactivate (like a screensaver) and if you in addition shut off the screensaver and configure a short time in the power settings for activate the "hibernate mode of the display you will have the perfect power saving screen dimmer

this is my primary way of extending my macbook screen. LCD panels has its operating time.
i leave my mac on overnights. zeroing the brightness on MBs wont turn the screen off they just darken it. u can see the screen but no backlight. So as a result the LCD panel is working all night until it auto-sleep as set.
I knew about this useful key combo from one of the apple tech friend i've been talking to and I use it regularly.

A word of warning: this turns off output to ALL displays connected. There is currently (as far as I'm aware) no way of turning off an iMac's built in screen and using just the externally connected screen. I have a 40" TV as my main monitor with a 24" iMac sitting near it. I don't use the iMac's screen, and I want to save energy (and possibly cool down my Mac a bit).

Honestly, I've always been more of a fan of just putting the monitor to sleep than screen savers. Sure they look pretty awesome, but if you're sitting at your computer, are you really doing so with the screen saver on?Good luck for the dates. Ctrl-shift-eject turns off the display. If you are doing a presentation with something other than Powerpoint (say Preview, or a browser) and wish to temporarily black the screen so you can write on a whiteboard located behind the projector screen, the project will detect the display going off and will typically display a message or blue screen. What is wanted is a way to instantly blacken the screen without actually turning it off, so the output is black output. I don't know of any way to do this. If Powerpoint is used, there is a hot key to make a black screen, but if you are using some other app for your presentation, the only way seems to be to hit the brightness key a bunch of times to reduce the display brightness to 0.
