There are numbers of To-do List Managers available for your Mac: from to-do list managers that adopt minimalism to those that provide feature-rich services, from those with expensive pricing tags to those set as donation wares.
Though many prefer commercial apps that are assumed to be complete in feature, I personally feel like to explore free apps that sometimes can be used to substitute those commercial ones.
Some free to-do list managers listed below will help you in saving your pocket money as well as getting things done…
With EtreTask, we can save as many tasks as we want and along with that, we can also add Description and link to Resources. Even though we have short memory loss, we still can figure out things to be done by reading the details.
Anxiety is a to-do list application that has sleek interface and always floats over anything else (which I feel a bit distracting). With Anxiety, you can directly map your tasks with iCal, adding additional time detail for you.
If simple to-do list is your preference, you will want to have a free copy of TaskMate. TaskMate helps you keep track of your tasks and activities whether it’s on waiting queue or already done.
CheckOff, which runs on background, helps you seamlessly keep track of your tasks. Hanging on your menu bar, CheckOff with least distraction provides you with simple checklist interface to capture tasks and categorize them.
If you’re the type of person that like to arrange things in an organized manners, iGTD 2 will be the most suitable choice for you. iGTD 2, as shown on the screenshot, helps you capture as much information as you need, especially the most important time information to determine deadline of your tasks.
As simple to-do list application, Do It manages your categorized to-do lists, where each item can be linked to a file on your Mac. Apart from its minimalistic interface, Do It is also integrated with other Mac applications, such as Address Book, Quicksilver and iCal.
There is a high chance that you’ve known some amazing to-do lists that you love, you can share it with others, perhaps. If I've missed any or you've any suggestions, please inform me with the comment box provided below.

To-do
Some articles taken from our resource base, tightly related to current article, to empower you with more knowledge on tweaking the most out of your Mac.
I absolutely cannot live with Things, from CulturedCode. Granted, Things costs 40$, but I think its worth every penny. It is a sleek application with a beautiful interface. It offers syncing with iPhones and iTouchs. http://culturedcode.com/things/
iCal and Apple Mail. Sync between the two and is very nicely accessible from both.
I know Julius Eckert's SimpleTODO (i made its icon, that's why i know it).
After using iGTD, then Things I'm really enjoying using The Hit List by Potion Factory (http://www.potionfactory.com/blog/archives/hit-list)
please, how do you have 2 windows opened with Anxiety? I can only have one.
I'm using Organized by iSlayer for my To-dos.
It's a nice Dashboard widget that not only have a Todo option synced with iCal and Mail (Just like anxiety) but it feature a functional Calendar, a world clock feature, a notepad feature and next appointment feature. This should be on your list since it enter as well in "Free Mac To-do List Managers".
Organized FTW! iSlayer FTW!
DeskBox is not free!!!
I've tried most of the todo apps out there including Things, OmniFocus, EasyTask, Pluto, Hot Plan, Inbox, iProcrastinate, The Hit List, etc. While not free, Process3 is the one that finally will replace iGTD for me.
http://www.jumsoft.com/process/
Nice things about it:
1. Can link to websites, files, folders for a todo (and the website is rendered in realtime within Process3!)
2. Smart Projects (think Smart folders in Mail)
3. Custom icons for Projects using whatever graphic file you like (nice touch)
Current Nits (as of 2009.04.13):
1. Cursor jumps to the end of a line when inserting text in a Note
2. When using large fonts in a note, the first line is partially concealed (workaround is to add a couple blank lines to the top of the note :-)
I need a to-do that not only integrates with ICal but which I can also print and take with me... Any suggestions?
I'm prototyping a two-level organization: 1. Competing areas of my life and large goals. The goals have priority order. 2. To-do list items within each area or goal. They also have priority order, they are related, and they may depend on each other. But to-do list items across goals aren't related. I'd like to see all my goals in separate columns so I can pick the top few items from each goal and slot them into my day. Do any of these programs do that?
@Pp: deskbox is free, go to the Homepage
I simply CANNOT believe Things is not on the list. I can't live without it, it's so good! Please add it to the TOP of the list!
This is exactly what I needed, I am trying out Anxiety first because it looks so lightweight.
I'm just starting college and I love my mac:) but i am horrible at scheduling what I need to do! Does anyone know of an app that looks like a pegboard, you can drag/drop photos onto, stays on your desktop, and works like Things? If it's out there, I would LOVE to hear about it! Thanks!
The best desktop to do lister is get scattrbrain (getscattrbrain.com) just sits on desktop and adding your to do's is soooo quick & easy. No shifting sites - just FAST
@Matthew Lowery- Things is not free. That's why it's not on the list. [Brooklyn language removed]
Brooklyn language removed? What the fuck is that supposed to mean?
I am looking for a task manager that allows me to schedule repeating tasks. I could do this in Outlook's task manager. There are some tasks that I have to do every day but I still need them on my list to keep me focused. Any suggestions on which Task applications would allow me to do this? This is my first foray into using a Mac and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed that Their I-Cal doesn't even have the same most basic features that I could get in Outlook.
I have been using Things for my todo but for the past week I am unable to access the data in Things from my Mac - it works fine on my Itouch and Iphone - short of reinstalling I have been unable to correct the problem and support at Things website has not offered me any useful hints as to why my Things on my Mac inexplicably quit working. I think I will switch to Anxiety or one of the others on this list - good list!! thanks!!
iGTD 2 (Alpha) is not freeware anymore. It has been absorbed by Things.
I'm all about simplicity and interface. So anxiety would be perfect if it stops floating on top of all my windows. So instead, I'm using Rainlendar, and also TeuxDeux (website) combined with Fluid to make it a desktop app. Although the con for TeuxDeux is that it requires internet.

Pity that iGTD is no longer a freeware :(
CheckOff is no longer free.
Great! Thanks :)
I was using Anxiety but I found that DO IT had a few more options.
