ADVERTISEMENTS

Folks at MakeTechEasier posted a nifty trick to turn their Ubuntu into a Leopard look-alike operating system.

It's kind of surprising for me. So now, both Windows users and Ubuntu users have the high demand to turn theirs into Leopard. Why don't they just buy a new Mac?

It might be that Mac stuff is still relatively expensive. Not cost effective. Macbook is not very good. But MacBook Pro is amazing, even for work, from my perspective. I will try to apply a new working laptop soon, try to ask for a MBP.

Windows look-alike OS X? That won't be a nice idea though (especially for me, I won't sacrifice my Mac to become windows minion)...

My two cents, well some people just like the look. Just because you shave your head doesn't mean you want to be a skinhead, just because you got tattoos doesn't mean you want to be a bad ass, just because you dyed your hair doesn't mean you want to be a . . . Well, you get the point. They like the look doesn't mean they like what it is, what it represnts, or presents itself to be, otherwise they would have gone and got one in the first place.

Not all the people use Mac because it's too expensive for the common people. I work a lot with Macs (I work as graphic designer...) and, if you compare a Dual Core PC (without the run-like-a-turtle Vista) against the same hardware running Mac, the performance of the system is nearby one each other. The cost: the same hardware on PC is THREE TIMES cheaper than Mac. Mac is more beautiful? Yes, no doubt about it. But, in this issue, the beauty cost a LOT. Because I can't afford the cost of buy a mac for my home (a lot of people can say the same words), I installed WinXP, Ubuntu and Leopard running on the same machine (an AMD64 3200). My boss buy the real macs for the office. He can pay it ;) Hackintosh rules. (I have a PowerBook, not only the Hackintosh) ;D Sorry for my bad english.

It seems to me that when comparing Mac and PCs spec for spec, the Macs tend to be in the same ballpark in terms of cost. All you need to do is Google "Mac vs PC costs" and you will find many articles comparing the two which come to the same conclusions in general: Macs are more expensive them some and cheaper than others. But only looking at the specs, you looking at the question in a vacuum. You also need to consider the OS, the overall experience, total cost of ownership, how well the system will hold up over a 3-4 year period and so forth. In my own subjective experience, my Powerbook and MacBook Pro blew away the competition. In fact my 4 year Powerbook works just as well as it did 4 years ago when I purchased it. I can't say the same for the Dells, HPs, and IBMs that I've used for work over the same time period.
