All About Apple Mac

Reading article from ArsTechnica about next Apple plan: Mac OS X Code Named Snow Leopard, May be Pure Cocoa shocks me. It's only for Intel which means in the very near future, my beloved PowerPC cannot be upgraded.

Regardless of that fact, what I expect the most from Snow Leopard is the improvement of Spotlight User Interface. Being frank here, I rarely use Leopard Spotlight because I feel it's much less user-friendly compared to Tiger's and Quicksilver, even though it's slower, still has better interface than Leopard Spotlight.

Above: Tiger Spotlight Interface on top and Leopard Spotlight Interface at the bottom.

So, how about you? What do you expect the most from Snow Leopard?

I expect a fully scalable user interface, for the visually impaired. This is already supported by the core (and can be tested if you install the Leopard developer tools), but not yet exposed to the user because of buggy applications. Sebastian

I expect some changes in the interface. I guess it will become more polished, even though I can't imagine how it can be, still I believe in Apple's designers. I wish that Apple improves performance of Mail, makes it more stable and adds some beatufil new templates.

I expect they put more effort designing better window drop shadow, it looks horrible in Leopard...

I never use the icon view in Leopard's finder/spotlight. That seems clunky. But using the list view is fast, trouble-free and intuitive for me.

It's Intel only because Multi-touch tablets are coming and soon all the Macs will have full touch screens.

why would you use spotlight in icon view? I thought people usually use them with the list view like bernie says.

So far, they've said Snow Leopard will not introduce new features and will just be performance fixes and upgrades. If this doesn't change and they charge for it, I'm pirating it cos I don't want to pay just for bug fixes. If they introduce new features and actually make upgrading worthwhile, then I'll pay for it. If Apple are thinking along the same lines as me, then they'll add features and stuff. I'm hoping for a new Front Row interface cos the current one in leopard is boring and needs changing (and I don't like the alternatives available).
