Batch Resize Images

June 10, 2008 in Imaging, Leopard, Tips and Tricks, Utilities | 15 Comments

While resizing all my images, photos and wallpapers, I came into this great trick to easily batch resize images that I've never read somewhere else before; You can simply use Preview to batch resize images.

Wanna know more?

You will be surprise of how simple this batch resizing trick is; You only need four simple steps to do it:

  1. Highlight all images and Open them in Preview
  2. Inside Preview, select all images that you want to batch resize
  3. Choose Preview: Tools ▸ Adjust Size... followed by entering value for common width/height
  4. And for the finishing move, choose Preview: File ▸ Save All or keystrokes Command-Option-S will do

You can go to your Finder and check whether all images are resized correctly; I guarantee this batch resize images trick works fine in Leopard.

Unfortunate for Batch Resizer Applications out there, Preview has outsmarted their applications. But well, maybe Windows users still need those batch resizer applications, just my wild guess.

Hi! I have a read a few places that suggest going to tools: adjust size while in preview but i must have an old version of preview because my computer does not give me that option. I don't know that much about macs, can you tell me how to get a new version of preview. I looked on apple.com and can't find Preview updates. This is for work so I'd really appreciate it if someone out there could help me so I don't look like a doofus... thank you so much! Liz

That freaking ROCKS! I just installed a photoblog for a client using pixelpost and realized he will need to resize his massive pictures before uploading or the thumbnail option will not work. This is a method he can definitely use to get it done quickly without installing additional software. Thanks a bunch!
